About us

Why we built it

Picking a host is a decision people make on very little. The reviews that exist are spread across general-purpose platforms that know nothing about uptime, DDoS protection or what a control panel is for, and the specialist advice tends to be affiliate content wearing a review's clothes.

So we built the narrow version. One industry, reviews from the people paying for the service, and the two things a review platform usually keeps quiet - how it makes its money and how it moderates - published in the open from the start.

What we hold ourselves to

• Transparency

  Anyone can see a provider ratings, their review history, which providers are on the platform, who we run on ourselves, and a provider verification status. No hidden sponsorships, and nothing that quietly changes a score behind the scenes.

• Independence

  A provider cannot buy a better rating, full stop. Claiming a page is free, and the paid tiers unlock analytics, business tools, and customization, nothing more. The reviews stay independent of what anyone pays us.

• Community driven

  The people using these services decide who is trustworthy, not us. Verified reviews, from someone we can confirm actually bought the service, carry more weight than anonymous ones.

The third one is worth being concrete about, because it is the promise most easily broken quietly. A paid plan cannot move a rating on this site, and that is not a policy somebody follows: the functions that produce a star rating and a Trust Score are handed reviews and nothing else, so there is no argument a subscription could arrive through. How the numbers are worked out sets out the whole calculation.

How we make money

Providers pay for tools, never for numbers. Claiming a page is free and always will be, and the paid tiers unlock analytics, invitations, integrations and business features. None of them touches a rating, a review, or where a provider appears in a listing.

Who pays us is published on the transparency page, along with what we run the platform on and where either of us has a connection to a company listed here. The amounts are deliberately not published: naming a figure invites the reading that bigger payers get something, which is the opposite of the point.

Who we are

RankRack is Kade Terpstra and Bradley Pincott, trading as RankRack Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 17378395 at 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ. It runs under its own registration rather than as a division of anything, so there is no parent company whose other interests could pull on what gets published here.
